Student In UniformThe Australian Trade College North Brisbane is a unique alternative for Yr 11 & 12 students that allows them to start their trade career at the end of Year 10 and study for their Queensland Certificate of Education at the same time.

The College has been established as a co-educational and independent training and education college which focuses on creating a rich trade-based environment to engage the student-apprentices in a supportive learning atmosphere.  Being a Registered Training Organisation allows the College to train student-apprentices in their trade area to Certificate III level.  As a registered secondary school the College offers a Senior Secondary curriculum that is tailored to suit the trade areas and also meets the Queensland Studies Authority’s requirements for Queensland Certificate of Education eligibility.
This unique structure has been developed to suit the needs of the student-apprentices and employers and accelerates student-apprentices’ trade training and full-time work placement.

The College provides training in the following industry areas:

  • Automotive
  • Electrotechnology
  • Commercial Cookery
  • Metal and Engineering (Fitting and Fabricating)
  • Building and Construction (Carpentry, Cabinet-Making, Brick/Block Laying)

What are the benefits for student-apprentices who attend the College?

  • Each Australian School-based Apprentice (ASbA) has the opportunity to:
  • Accelerate their School-based training in industry standard facilities at the College with an excess of 816 hours trade training
  • Complete senior studies and achieve a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE)
  • Complete up to 45% of an apprenticeship in their chosen industry at a Certificate III Level
  • Be paid an apprentice wage for the time spent ‘at work’ with their employer
