Type: Apprenticeship Job summary: The apprentice undertaking this role will primarily service and repair the mechanical parts of motor vehicles such as the engine, transmission (clutch, gear box and differential) and the suspension systems (springs, steering, brakes, wheels and tyres). The apprentice will also perform tasks including: discussing problems with vehicle drivers to discover faults and carrying out their own diagnosis procedures; repair and service cooling systems, fuel systems, air conditioning and emission control systems, clutch assemblies, manual and automatic transmissions, braking systems, final drive assemblies and steering and suspension systems. The repair of ignition, electronic engine management and electrical systems are also encompassed in the motor mechanic’s duties. With the rapid changes in automotive technology, motor mechanics are becoming more specialised in their areas of work. Some Apprentice’s will now also have an Expected Duration. The Expected Duration is the amount of time that it’s reasonably expected that someone could become competent and complete their Apprenticeship. Progression Points within Expected Duration: To achieve a reasonable rate of progress and completion within the expected duration (48 months) it is anticipated an apprentice would achieve 25% of the total competency value for the qualification (refer to clause 2.1.1 of Schedule 3 of the QIRC Order) within each 12 month period of the apprenticeship
